10 years anniversary Romania CST Index 2025 Results Announced

Romania Corporate Sustainability & Transparency INDEX (CST INDEX®), formerly known as Romania CSR INDEX (2016-2020), is the most important and complex ranking in the sustainability field in Romania.

The 10th anniversary edition marks a decade of a coherent and continuously evolving methodology.

The Romania CST Index is built on a robust and internationally aligned methodology. It integrates key European sustainability frameworks, including the CSRD and the ESRS, and reflects the disclosure principles of the GRI Universal Standards 2021, the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting standards. The Index draws inspiration from the best-in-class approach of the Dow Jones World Index and the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), adapting globally recognized practices to the Romanian market. In addition, it incorporates the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principles of the UN Global Compact, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of long-term economic, environmental, and social performance.

The reports or public disclosures of companies were evaluated using a scorecard consisting of 11 categories and 99 indicators, representing an increase of 14 indicators compared to the previous year. The scorecard includes 243 data points, an increase of 14 data points compared to last year’s 229 data points. The information analysed reflect the companies’ sustainability strategies and objectives, as well as their economic, environmental, and social impacts.

The Romania Corporate Sustainability & Transparency Index (CST INDEX) 2025 comprises 11 sections:

Sustainability Governance

Diversity Policy

Economic Impact

Climate Change and Energy

Environmental Governance

Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Policy

Overall, the level of corporate sustainability transparency in Romania remains low. In 2025, a total of 60 sustainability reports or sustainability statements have been published to date, for FY 2024. Of these, six reports did not exceed the 50% threshold in the Romania CST Index evaluation.

When compared to the 714 companies that employed more than 500 employees in 2024, it results that approximately 92% of companies would not surpass the 50% threshold in the Romania CST Index assessment, mainly because they don’t have a sustainability report or statement.

Notes on information analysed:

For the evaluation, publicly available information was considered, as well as information provided directly to us that is scheduled to become public within the following month. Companies were assessed either through active participation or through a desk-based review of publicly available information, without receiving feedback from some evaluated companies.
